CURRENT NEWS
EYSO 2012-13 SEASON AUDITIONS
Introduce your student to the classical music world and reap benefits for years to come.

From May 30th to June 3rd, 2012, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, an In-Residence Ensemble in the Arts Center at Elgin Community College, will be auditioning students for its 37th season.

Auditions will be held on the main campus of Elgin Community College (ECC). Students who will begin 4th grade in the fall to college students may audition for a seat in one of the six ensembles. Applications and audition requirements may be found at HERE, or by calling the EYSO office at (847) 841-7700

Auditions for the EYSO Honors Chamber Groups
Auditions for the Maud Powell String Quartet, Sterling Brass Quintet, and Hanson String Quartet are open to brass and string players who will participate in next season's Youth Symphony. Candidates new to the EYSO must first audition for the Youth Symphony during the May 30-June 3 auditions.

EYSO – Bringing Great Music to the City of Elgin for 36 Years

The EYSO regular season includes nine concert performances at the Blizzard Theatre on the main campus of ECC. In addition, the Chamber Music Institute performs each semester; the Brass Choir performs every spring; and the Maud Powell String Quartet and Hanson String Quartet, and the Sterling Brass Quintet (EYSO honors chamber groups) also perform throughout the year.

In addition to concert performances, students have the opportunity to work and play with world-renown musicians and ensembles. Most recently, members of the Youth Orchestra had the opportunity to participate in the EYSO Civil War Tour where they were able to perform in Kennesaw, GA; Savannah, GA; and Gettysburg, PA. Students explored the relationship between history and music as it related to the 2011-12 concert theme of Arts and Minds.

EYSO is committed to making participation accessible to any qualified student regardless of financial need. Students may earn part or all of their EYSO tuition. Since the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra is an In-Residence Ensemble at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, EYSO members who are 16 years of age at the beginning of a semester may be eligible to earn college credit while playing in the EYSO.
